About#

I am Alexander Wolf, co-founder and CTO of 8mylez, a Shopware agency. Usually myl3z online, and xndrdev on GitHub.

This site#

Not a portfolio — a notebook that happens to be public.

The motive is self-serving: writing something down means understanding it better, and having to explain it reveals that you did not understand it as well as you thought. While writing the Pi-hole notes it struck me that the server was the only device in the house not using its own filter. That does not stand out while configuring. It does while phrasing.

I am less interested in what works right now than in why it works, and what happens when it stops. Which is why the mistakes are here too: a note that only shows the finished state leaves out the part where you actually got stuck.

In my spare time#

Right now mostly a homelab, built one step at a time — one device, one service, write it down, carry on. It started with a thin client and a DNS server of my own; next comes a network with proper segments, and after that a hypervisor. It is less about the services than about having seen the layers from below once, instead of renting them.

Alongside that, cyber security: labs, tooling, reading notes. Plus an Arch Linux setup that never quite reaches finished, which is presumably the point of it.

The line between work and evenings is admittedly thin in all of this.
